Home Computer Networks

Home computer network enables you to inter-connect two or more home computers. With this kind of system, you can do and expand lot of things. These include the sharing of one printer among or between computers, the distribution of one internet connection, admission of shared files, having a multiplayer system in doing games, and the transferring of DVD or VCD output from your other computer. The list is endless.

There are different methods and techniques in connecting your home computers. Before you install some wires or cables in your house, consult first a registered house engineer. Have him inspect all the possibilities of rewiring and remodeling the electric plugs or sockets. Then after that, all things are ready to go. Some of the ways to hook up your computers in a home network include the in-wall cable setup, diagonal floor structure, wireless networking, power lines, phone lines, and the use of CD-Rs. After hooking up, you must choice its networking basics; standard Ethernet, phone-line-based, power-line-based and wireless.

A home Ethernet networking connection, which uses at least two network interface cards (NIC) and a cable, is one of the most popular networking systems at present. In relation, it covers a wide range area. Other materials used in Ethernet are multiple routers, bridges and hubs. Ethernet improvements over other networking media include its 100 Mbps speed (although you can have the slower speed of 10 Mbps), cost-affectivity, reliability, easy maintenance, unlimited device connection, and extensive technical support. However, installing it can be a tedious job. Its basic configuration is also difficult to manage.

Ethernet can be connected in two ways; one is through coax and the other is through Cat 5 wiring (it has a similarity with the telephone cabling).

The bus network, star network, ring network, mesh network, and the star-bus network are the network topologies you must consider when installing home network system.
